In a new paper, we investigate behaviors associated with physiological covariation in romantic couples during a discussion about their futures. We found significant variability in how much couples experienced covariation, and covariation depended, at least in part, on people’s behaviors during the discussions. These findings underscore couples’ physiological synchrony as a heterogeneous process that can emerge with the presence of greater behavioral and emotional positivity.
